Flea control in Modesto
Bites around the ankles and a scratching dog usually mean most of the fleas are in the carpet and pet bedding, with only some on the animal.
Calls are answered early morning to late evening

How to recognize the problem
Adult fleas are reddish brown, wingless, up to 1/8 inch long and flat from side to side, which is why they are so hard to pinch. The usual one is the cat flea, which lives on dogs too and also bites people.
Eggs fall off the animal and develop where it rests. Look at pet beds, carpets, and shaded spots outside such as crawl spaces and plants by the house. Comb the pet and check what is on the comb. Ticks are a separate issue. If you are finding those as well, mention it on the call.
Fleas in the Central Valley
UC IPM names the moderately humid Central Valley, along with the coast, as the part of California most affected. Numbers rise sharply in spring and early summer, although you can find fleas all year. UC IPM says larvae need high humidity and that sunlight discourages them, so a shady, watered spot beside the house suits them better than open sun.
At room temperature the whole cycle can take about 18 days. Fleas can stay in their cocoons for up to 12 months in cool conditions, so an empty home can seem fine until someone moves in.
What a flea visit usually involves
Every independent company works differently. This is the general shape, so you know what to ask about.
Finding where the pets rest
The company asks about pets and looks at carpets, furniture and shaded areas outside.
Treating at the same time as the pet
Treatment of the home works far better alongside treatment of the pet. Talk to your vet about that part, since a product made for a dog may not suit another pet.
Preparing the house
You will likely be asked to wash pet bedding and vacuum first. Ask how to prepare, how long people and pets should stay out, and when you can vacuum again.
The two weeks after
UC IPM says pupae survive treatment, so fleas may keep appearing for about two weeks. Keep vacuuming. Ask the company what to expect before deciding it failed.
When to call
- You have treated the pet and are still being bitten.
- You have moved into a place with fleas and no pet of your own.
- Fleas keep appearing weeks after vacuuming and washing.
Common questions
Why do I still see fleas after treatment?
Pupae in cocoons survive and keep coming out for about two weeks, according to UC IPM. Vacuuming helps bring them out.
Can a flea problem happen without pets?
Yes. Fleas can arrive with visiting animals or be waiting in a home a previous tenant's pet lived in.
